New Orleans’ Magazine Street is home to Magasin Café, a high-end Vietnamese restaurant. The family of matriarch and executive chef Luot Nguyen operated restaurants in Vietnam before immigrating to Santa Anna, California, in 1975. Chef Luot began her culinary training at a Vietnamese restaurant on the West Coast, then relocated to New Orleans, where relatives had established roots. She opened her first restaurant in New Orleans East with her mother, a chef who shared her passion for traditional Vietnamese cuisine. With her daughter Kim, Chef Luot opened Magasin Kitchen in the Central Business District.
